《醫方集解》也評價此方：此足少陰、厥陰藥也。何首烏澀精固氣，補肝堅腎，為君；茯苓交心腎而滲脾濕；牛膝強筋骨而益下焦；當歸辛溫以養血；枸杞甘寒而補水；菟絲子益三陰而強衛氣；補骨脂助命火而暖丹田。此皆固本之藥，使榮衛調適，水火相交，則氣血太和，而白髮自黑也。
